History of Telangana and Telangana Movement PDF

The decades-old struggle in the region to create a state separate from Andhra Pradesh came to an end. The complete history of Telangana

1. The name Telangana is derived from the word Telugu Angana which means the place where Telugu is spoken. The Nizam (1724–1948) used the word Telangana to distinguish it from Marathi speaking areas in his state.

2. 230 BC From 220 BC To date, the Satavahana dynasty ruled between Krishna and Godavari rivers.

3. From 1083 to 1203 AD, kings of the Kakatiya dynasty ruled here. His era is called the Golden Age here. This dynasty established Warangal as its capital.

4. In 1309 AD, Alauddin Khilji’s General Malik Kafur attacked Warangal which led to the downfall of the Kakatiya dynasty. Till 1687, the Delhi Sultanate ruled this place. In 1687, Golconda near Hyderabad was captured by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

5. In 1769, Nizam ul Mulk Asif Jah (Asif Jah Nizam Dynasty) made Hyderabad the capital of his empire.

6. In 1799, the British made an agreement with Nizam Asif Jah. Coastal Andhra remained with the Nizam and Rayalaseema region came under the British.

7. Until 1946, this area remained under the British and Nizams. This was the year of the Telangana rebellion. This year the foundation of this demand was laid. At that time this movement did not last long.

8. After the independence of India in 1947, the Nizam of Hyderabad refused to join the Indian Union. The Nizam also turned down Nehru and Sardar Patel’s requests. In such a situation, the Indian government sent the army and merged the princely state of Hyderabad into the Indian Union on September 17, 1948.

9. In 1953, the State Reorganization Commission was created to determine the boundaries of the states. The panel of the Commission did not want Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to be merged despite being a language. After Nehru’s intervention, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were merged on 1 November 1956 under the State Reorganization Act. The state of Andhra Pradesh was created on 1 November 1956, with the capital city of Hyderabad, the then capital of Hyderabad province. Then Nehru had said ‘Let the chances of divorce remain in this marriage’.

10. On 29 November 2009, TRS under the leadership of Chandrashekhar Rao launched an indefinite hunger strike demanding the formation of Telangana. Due to increasing pressure on the central government, on February 3, 2010, a five-member Committee was formed under the leadership of former judge Shri Krishna. The committee submitted its report to the Center on 30 December 2010. Finally, due to heavy opposition and electoral pressure in Telangana, on 3 October 2013, the UPA government approved the formation of a separate Telangana state. On 2 June 2014, Telangana became the 29th state of the country and Chandrashekhar Rao was sworn in as its first CM.
